In April 2023, the first generation of Metcelerate Learners for the Spanish Program started with the Orientation Week followed immediately by the Mining Value Chain course. A total of 24 professionals form part of this first generation in Spanish, with engineers from Chile, Peru, Argentina and Mexico. The companies and/or sites that are involved in the program are AMSA | Los Pelambres (Chile); Glencore | Lomas Bayas (Chile); Newmont | Cerro Negro (Argentina); Glencore | Antapaccay (Perú); Newmont | Yanacocha (Perú); and Newmont | Peñasquito (México).
The first course of the Metcelerate program is “Mining Value Chain” which takes three weeks in total. In this course, the learners critically review and discuss the Annual Report, a Cash Flow Analysis and the Sustainability Report of their employer. The skills that are acquired in this course form a generic and broad basis for the following courses in the program, and allow the learners to have a better understanding of the mining business and the critical aspects – financially, technically or both – of the plant where they work.
